Its age is unknown but is estimated to be between 1,250 and 2,500 years. It is the largest kauri known to stand today.[1] Its Māoriname means "Lord of the Forest" (see Tāne), from the name of a god in the Māoripantheon.
According to the Maori creation myth, Tāne is the son of Ranginui the sky father and Papatuanuku the earth mother. Tāne separates his parents from their marital embrace until his father the sky is high above mother earth. Tāne then sets about clothing his mother with vegetation. The birds and the trees of the forest are regarded as Tāne’s children.

Have a look at Kiwikids news 2012 / February - The year has started well with the introduction of CAFE and the Daily 5 in our literacy time. Then programme was started by a kiwi lady and was taken up and expanded by 2 sisters in USA. The do have a website The 2 sisters. The main philosophy behind the programme is children get better at reading and writing by having lots of modelling and chances to do those activities regularly. It also give students choices as far as when they do the activities so they have greater ownership of their work and develop independent work habits. I as their teacher can pull out different students for different reasons and still do group sessions or individual sessions (in writing, reading and spelling). Throughout the morning I also do a variety of whole class lessons - focussed on writing or reading.
